Bagan in Central Myanmar is one of the most impressive heritage sites anywhere on this amazing planet. The majority of the sites were built between 1057-1287 AD. With over 2230 pagoda and stupda’s Bagan was Myanmar’s known attraction with good reason. The building boom which brought about Bagan’s temples were the vision of King, A central aspect of Myanmar Buddhism is the belief that merit is granted to those who donate to the construction or referbishment of Temples and Pagoda’s. in 1287 Ad the construction of Bagan and indeed the city itself was brought to an abrupt end due to the intrusion of the Mogol army in northern Myanmar, with the vast majority of the city being abandoned at that point.

Hot Air Balloon rides over Bagan
An early morning balloon ride is the best way to take in the sunrise and appreciate the sheer scale of Bagan, flights are provided by Oriental Balloons and Balloons over Bagan. Flights take approximately 45 minutes.
For the fit and keen the bike is always an option, pathways are laced throughout the temples so finding a suitable road is not an issue, however it is easy to get dis-orentated to take a map before you leave your guesthouse. The entire site is 16 square km’s it can get very hot so take plenty of water and have a great time.
One of the most beautiful methods by either Horse or Bollock it may not be the quickest way to get around but certainly one of the most authentic, one really gets an appreciation for the fabric of time and the extraordonary feet it was to construct this vast city.

Getting to Bagan
The famous “Road to Mandalay” actually refers to the Boat cruise up the Arrawaddy river from Yangon to Mandalay, passing by Bagan.
Flights into Bagan run daily from Yangon which is a 90 minute flight. Regular flights can also be made from Mandalay.
Bus’s are available from Mandalay and Yangon
